Dear World,
With everything going on recently I only ask one thing of you and that’s to not allow yourselves to become desensitized. Don’t get to the point where you don’t inform yourself about a situation because “it happens all the time”. Yes, this shit has been happening for years and decades. The only difference is it’s now being shared real time with the world. I really don’t care what opinions you may have about the tragedies as long as you have made your own opinion from what you have seen and read. Nowadays, it is entertainment to see someone bust their ass. Whether it’s on Worldstar or Real Tv or Ridiculousness, people watch that shit and get a kick out of people hurting themselves. That is nothing like worlds funniest home videos. Those videos make me cringe and I see nothing comical about them. But people have become so desensitized that it’s okay to watch people make mistakes and injure themselves. I remember when I was younger and I learned about Emett Till. Ms Mamie was adamant about having an open casket. She wanted people to see what hate can do. I am thirty and the picture of young Emett Till is forever etched in my memory. The same way his mother forced people to see her beaten son I want people to see the injustices being done. This ain’t some “niggas get shot everyday b” shit. No. Black men, women, and children are being taken from their mothers, fathers, wives, husbands and children because the people that are sworn to protect us fear us and can’t think of anything other than pulling a gun on us. Not all cops are bad. Not all black people are bad. I don’t care if you’re black, white, Puerto Rican or Haitian or whatever. I want each and every one of you to pay attention to what is going on in our world. Do not wait until it is you or someone in your family before you decide to feel something for what is happening around us. Watching a video of someone taking their last breath should evoke some type of emotion in you. I’m not telling anyone how to feel about the recent events but I at least want you to feel. I’m afraid for my daughter, for my son, for my man, and for me and my smart ass mouth. No one of any color should fear to leave their house. I don’t blame the system, I don’t blame the President, I blame the people that have raised their children with hatred for anyone that doesn’t look like them. I read the comments and the replies on social media, and I am appalled at how there are still ignorant racist ass people out here and how bold they are to express their racism on social media. Stop ignoring what is going on around you. Pay attention. Educate yourself. If you disregard what’s happening, then you are part of the problem. Open your eyes. Do not become numb to the atrocities. I beg of you.
